Samstorp was the Hog College and top selling Landrace at the 2000 National Barrow Show. He is a rugged, durable boar that possesses excellent spring of rib and very good natural width from end to end. Long bodied, well-designed, flexible made; he is super sound with big feet and even toes. He has very good muscle definition (8.14 LEA); but still is loose structured and free moving. He has an excellent underline with eight prominent and well spaced teats on each side. From an outstanding litter of 11 weaned with a remarkable 21-day litter weight of 197 lbs, his dam is one of the top ranking sows at Cedar Ridge. She has averaged 12.6 born live, 10.8 after transfer, 10 weaned and 156.4 lb 21-day litter weight for five parities. Two littermates to Samstorp’s dam have averaged 10.4 and 9.8 weaned and 152.8 and 152 lb litter weights for five parities each. Two littermate brothers of Samstorp were high ranking boars at the Ida Grove Test Station. Samstorp’s sire, Karlstorp 81-2; is the top ranking boar at Cedar Ridge on MLI at 114.4. He is also the 3rd ranking sire on EPD Days and 9th on TSI in the Winter 2001 Across Herd Sire Summary. His EPD’s are –4.80 Days, -0.02 BF, 0.14 NBA, 0.69 LWT, 114.4 MLI and 133.6 TSI. The sire of Karlstorp 81-2’s dam is the imported Irish boar Hermitage Custi 344 that is also a high ranking boar on MLI, litterweight, backfat and days. Samson 92-2, the maternal grandsire of Samstrop, is the heaviest structured, heaviest boned, most massive boar in Cedar Ridge’s boar lineup. He is also a top ranking maternal boar in the 2001 Winter Across Herd Sire Summary ranking 4th on SPI(109.7), 6th on NBA (0.48) and 10th on LWT (4.46). We feel Samstorp is destined to be a maternal giant based on his outstanding performance documented pedigree. Combine this with his excellent phenotype and feedlot performance and you certainly have the complete or total package.
