When Soren arrived at SGI from the New York Isolation Center, we really became excited about his breeding potential.
-
An extra big framed boar that is totally bare down his top and free of excess trim along the underside, Soren still has very good width of chest, spring of rib and natural body width.
-
He has excellent muscle expression down his top, a long, thick rump and a deep, bulging, very muscular ham.
-
He also has excellent length and breed character about his head, a super underline and is sound and correct in his total body design.
-
The offspring by Soren’s sire were consistently the longest bodies, biggest framed and truly leanest hogs we saw in Sweden. The 5 central test station progeny groups by Soren’s sire averaged 0.54 inch backfat, and 63.6% lean (+1.5). The progeny test group of Soren’s dam had a remarkable 0.39 inch average backfat with an outstanding 65.7% lean (+3.8%).
-
Both the sire and dam test roups also had excellent meat color and quality. Soren’s dam has averaged 9.7 born live and 8.7 weaned in 3 parities while his maternal granddam has averaged 9.7 born live and 7.8 weaned for 6 parities.
-
One of the hardest combinations to find today is a big framed Hampshire that excels in muscle and leanness along with natural body width and correctness of structural design.
-
Soren offers these in a stress negative, performance proven, consistent genetic package. We feel he has the same potential to accomplish rapid change in the Hampshire breed that the legendary Ulf accomplished in the Yorkshire breed.
