Special was the $15,000 1987 National Barrow Show Champion Chester.
-
He is an excellent designed boar that has good length of neck, an ideal set to his shoulders and front legs, a very long, flexible top structure with extra length of rump and a high tail setting.
-
He is a super sound, good boned boar that has remained problem-free while housed in a small pen with a bare concrete floor.
-
Special is a lean boar with a good volume of muscle.
-
The seven boars in his litter averaged 0.74 in of backfat and 5.94 sq in of loin eye. Special is from a litter of 14 farrowed, 11 weaned. His dam has averaged 11.7 farrowed and 9.7 weaned in three litters. She is one of the most agile and sound sows in the Bluestem herd.
-
Special’s maternal granddam is considered by Dave Spaulding to be the top producing sow in his herd. Bluestem has repeated the same mating as Special three times and has kept every gilt except one that placed third at the 1987 Southwest Conference. Bluestem has also retained a littermate to Special named World Class, whose performance figures were 152 days to 230 lb, 0.75 BF, and 6.30 LEA.
-
Special is a truly “special” boar that puts it all together in one package. He has the potential to sire outstanding females, breed improving herd boars, and first-class show barrows.
