Mesquite combines excellent performance and outstanding carcass merit with a heavy duty, sound, functional phenotype. A fast growing, heavy structured boar; he is very correctly designed and has a big shoulder and excellent spring of rib. As evidenced by his 0.35 BF, he is an ultra lean boar with a very big and explosive top (8.98 LEA). He excels in topline design being particularly long and level in his rump with a high tail setting; which is certainly a big positive compared too many Hampshires. Heavy boned, big footed; Mesquite is very sound in his feet and leg structure. With Earnhardt’s breeding on both the top and bottom side, cutability is a sure thing. His sire, Empire 23-5, is by the renowned Mohican that has sired many superior Hampshires including The Ritz. Empire had 0.38 BF with a whopping 9.8 LEA. On the dam side of Mesquite, Credit is by Big Dog (by Stubby) and scanned 0.44 BF with an 8.80 LEA. For those of you that still want Hampshires with excellent spring of rib, body capacity, heaviness and correctness of structural design that will result in added growth rate and durability without sacrificing on cutability; Mesquite brings these traits to the table. We certainly feel he would be the ideal choice to make commercial oriented Hampshires or derby barrows where performance, cutability and correct, eye appealing phenotype are all-desirable.
