SMOKEY JOE is from an outstanding litter that is the result of a littermate mating. He was the Champion and top selling boar at the 1984 Hampshire Winter Conference and his littermate was the Reserve Champion and second top selling. He is from a gilt litter of 8 farrowed and 8 raised that averaged 141 days to 230 lbs and 0.71 BF. The five boars in the litter averaged 322 lbs. at six months of age while being raised in a pen of 39 head. His granddam on both sides of the pedigree, Andre Smokey 35-2, is one of the most influential sows in the McGuire herd. She is the dam of the 1981 Winter Type Conference Reserve Champion Boar and several outstanding sires in the McGuire SPF herd. SMOKEY JOE is an extremely lean boar with excellent muscle expression over his top, out through his rump and ham, yet is a loose structured, level-designed boar that is superior in soundness. SMOKEY JOE also has extra spring of rib and natural thickness through the center of his body and is a heavy-boned, rugged-made boar. He is extremely aggressive, active breeder and has a high quality underline. SMOKEY JOE’s combination of performance, muscle and leanness has been the reason for strong Hampshire influence in the production of efficient hogs that are in high demand by the commercial producers and packers.
