Harold saw the boar at Olsen's while looking for pigs to export and knew we needed to buy him. Chuck and Ben had planned on keeping him or taking him to the Crossbred Classic. Lucky for SGI they priced him to us.
We feel the pedigree on this boar is very different than most crossbred boars out there. Therefore Black Onyx should work well on some of the cross lines that are popular today
Black Onyx has a pure hamp sow on both side of the pedigree. His sire is Onyx 262-5 which is a Onyx on a The Judge pure Hamp sow and on the dam side he is a Alias 27-1 on a Black Oak sow
Black Onyx is a boar that is very complete in all area. He is extreme in his base width off both ends and very sound in his structure.
He is very level designed and thick topped and expressive in his muscle shape from behind
The nice thing about Black Onyx is that he is the right frame size and length of body to make show pigs right for the times
An added benefit is the strong maternal production of Black Onyx's dam. She has averaged 13.7 farrowed, 12.3 weaned and 142 lb 21-day weight for 3 parities
We feel Black Onyx will be able to sire great replacement females and barrows that are so complete in their design and structure that at the end of the day you will take the purple banner home
