- LARS is sired by the All-Time Swedish Record Indexing Boar. His 124 Breeding Index is based on the performance of six progeny slaughter groups that averaged: 2.21 lb daily gain with +0.15 deviation form station average, 0.59 inch carcass backfat, 2.2% more lean than station average and 0.20 lb less feed per lb gain than station average. All carcasses excelled in color and marbling which is rapidly becoming a very important consideration as we make hogs leaner and heavier muslce.
- LARS' dam has a 106 Breeding Index. His maternal granddam averaged 11.3 born alive and 9.8 weaned for 4 parities while his paternal granddam averaged 12.5 born live and 9.5 weaned for 4 parities.
- LARS is a big framed, extra long bodied boar that is the heaviest structured of any of the Swedish imports to date. He is from a line with proven ability to consistently add muscle and reduce backfat while maintaining superior growth rate. He is a long-fronted boar with good spring of rib and natural body width. He has an excellent underline with 4 teats in front of the sheath on both sides.
- Littermate sisters to LARS truly excellent in muscle and leanness combined with correct structure and overall soundness. Because of LARS excellent phenotype combined with the outstanding proven generating ability of his sire, Magleberg Farms said he was not for sale. It took a lot of persuasion plus a "few" U.S. dollars to bring this outstanding boar to the U.S.
- Before leaving Maglegerg Farms, LARS was used heavily. We were just recently informed that based on his 7 progeny test groups he was the highest ranking sire in Sweden during 1991 with 119 Index (122 when intramuscular fat was included). His offspring were +8.0% for daily gain, -10% feed, +1.0 percent lean, + 0.5 color, +0.31 intramuscular fat and + 0.11 leg score when compared to the mean. They had only 0.59 inch of carcass backfat. The U.S. as well as Canada results are now in and as predicted in the closing statement on LARS in the 1992 catalog, he is defnintely following in the footsteps of the immortal Ulf, LARS' first son exhibited in the U.S. placed second in Class 1 and was the 3rd high selling boar at the 1992 Yorkshire Winter Type Confrenece.
- LARS sired the top indexing and top selling boars over all breeds in both the Ohio Test Station National STAGES Test and the December 1992 Ontario, Canada Test Station Sales. In the January 1993 Yorkshire Crossherd, LARS was ranked first in Terminal Sire Index, third in EPDS for days and fourth in EPDS for backfat.
