• Explosion was the top indexing boar in his contemporary group.  Littermate boars were 2nd, 3rd and 4th ranking while littermate gilts were the top six ranking individuals in their contemporary groups.  The 12 pigs scanned in the litter averaged 0.38 backfat and 6.70 LEA. 
• Explosion is an extremely lean and trim boar as his 0.24 inch backfat substantiates.  He is very expressive in the muscle shape down his top, has a big thick rump and ham with a definite dimple above his tail. 
• Explosion’s sire, Explorer, has been one of the most popular sires at SGI because of his excellent combination of frame size, leanness and muscle expression. 
• Explosion fits this pattern, but with more cushion and flexibility up front and with bigger, thicker and more expressive britches behind. 
• Explosion is also a very stylish, well-balanced boar that has that extra pizzaz it takes to be a winner.  Although his phenotype and scan figures make Explosion an ideal terminal or show pig sire, he should also contribute to making better red females.  He is from a litter of 14 farrowed and 11 weaned (after transferring three) with a 162 lb 21-day litter weight.  His dam has a phenomenal 135.3 SPI.  Both his maternal grandsire.  Manatoba 42-5, and great grandsire, Ultimate, excelled in reproduction.  Manatoba is ranked 6^th in MLI (126.6) and 7^th in SPI  (132.6) in the latest Duroc Across-Herd Sire Summary while Ultimate is one of the top ranking sires for litter weight. 
• We are confident that Explosion will imitate his illustrious grandsire. Fjord, and sire, Explorer, in terms of siring offspring that will be winners not only in the show ring but also contribute to making bigger framed, leaner Durocs that will excel in commercial pork production, particularly when animals are taken to heavier weights.
