• STEROID is the most extreme of the five Danish Duroc boars in terms of muscling, particularly in the rump and ham areas. 
• He was named STEROID immediately by the selection group because they weren’t quite sure you could get that kind of muscle development and definition without the use of steriods.  He has a big, meaty shoulder, a very definite groove all the way down his top and an unbelievably huge ham.  You can see the various individual muscles working in his ham as he walks. 
• STEROID, as well as Body Builder, are sired by 5989 who has an outstanding 137 breeding index.  The 5989 boar is famous not only in Denmark but in several other countries because of his consistent ability to sire tremendous muscling.  The numerous progeny tested in Central Test Stations sired by 5989 have averaged 2.27 lb daily gain, 2.44 feed conversion and 58.31% meat (1.31% above the mean). 
• STEROID’S dam is sired by another outstanding boar, Frank, that has been used very heavily in Denmark’s AI breeding program.  His offspring have averaged 1.85% meat above the mean while STEROID dam’s offspring have averaged 1.75% meat above the mean. 
• STEROID’s dam has averaged 11.5 farrowed and 8.5 weaned in her first 2 parities.  His maternal granddam has averaged 12.0 born and 9.57 weaned in 7 parities and his paternal granddam (the dam of 5989) has averaged 13.43 born and 9.57 weaned also in 7 parities. 
• We are confident STEROID will sire tremendous muscling and extreme leanness. As one visitor indicated, there won’t be a need for the Pietrain breed in the U.S. if we have Durocs available with muscling like STEROID.
