• Fjord's ability to sire larger scaled, longer, leaner, trimmer and higher cutability Durocs has become clearly evident in his first crop.  Fjord is the top ranking sire on backfat EPDS in the December 1993 Duroc Crossherd Sire Summary. 
• MELFORD is a son of the prepotent Fjord.  He was the top indexing boar of his contemporary group where he truly excelled in leanness while being one fo the faster growing boars as well. 
• MELFORD is a big-framed, long lean, square topped boar with excellent muscle dimension throughout.  He surely excels in ham muscling with the various individual muscles being very detectable when he came off test. 
• A sound, sure-footed boar, MELFORD combines the excellent heaviness of skeleton and ruggedness of the KU Melon line on the bottom side with the extreme leanness and frame of Fjord on the top side.  Raised on tri-bar, then finished on total slats in a group of 18 head with 7.8 sq ft per pig gives added assurance of MELFORD's ability to sire pigs that can take competition and excel in growth and cutability. 
• An added benefit with MELFORD is the good reproduction represented on the top and bottom side of his pedigree. 
• MELFORD's dam has averaged 10.3 born and 7.9 weaned for 7 parities.  Her offspring have consistently excelled in growth, ruggedness and durability.  MELFORD's paternal granddam (Fjord's dam) averaged 13.5 farrowed and 12.0 weaned in her first two parities while his paternal great granddam averaged 11.0 born and 8.8 weaned in 5 parities.
