- High Octane was the 2nd high indexing (160.3) boar and a member of the all time record pen for feed efficiency (203) at the NEMO Test Station.
- He and his two littermates comprised without a doubt one of the all around best pens of tested Duroc boars for some time. All three had excellent performance figures and were big, rugged, thick muscled boars that remained remarkably sound and problem free while maintained on full feed to well over 400 lb in a very small test pen. The extra wide made, very thick muscled 17-5 littermate (2.77 ADG, 133 days, 0.70 BF, 6.45 LEA, 158.1 Index) is now working in the Robert Perry & Family Herd while the big framed, raw, heavy boned 17-1 littermate (2.59 ADG, 137 Days, 0.69 LBF, 6.61 LEA, 148.0 Index) is seeing service at Bluestem Farms.
- High Octane is a wide sprung, extra long bodied, level designed boar that particularly excelled in length and levelness of rump, thickness of muscle and underline quality. He has superb muscle shape down his long, level top; a long, square, very thick rump and a big, bulging ham. He and his littermates all had excellent teat spacing and nipple quality along with clean sheaths and notably good testicle size and placement. Their outstanding performance was no accident.
- The sons of High Octane’s sire, Four Wheeler, have performed well in four different test stations. The average performance of 13 test pens containing 34 boars was 2.45 ADG, 144 Days, 0.75 BF, 113.3 Index. In turn, Four Wheeler’s sire, BSB Wideload, had performance of 132 days to 230 with 0.72 in backfat and 6.80 sq in loin eye. He sired two Illinois State Fair Champion Duroc Barrows. The five purebred barrows slaughter at the Illinois State Fair sired by Wideload had actual average carcass figures of 32.3 in long, 0.82 in backfat and 6.25 sq in loin eye.
- High Octane’s dam was a class winning gilt at the 1986 National Duroc Congress and is still going strong after 8 litters. She was the dam of the top indexing boar at the Sands Mountain Test Station with 2.84 ADG, 134 days to 230 lb, 0.73 BF and 184 Index. Seven highly productive daughters, numerous granddaughters and a son called Soloflex have been retained at Wilsons. Soloflex was the fastest gaining (2.60 ADG) and leanest (0.68 BF) boar in his contemporary group.
- Just as the use of "high octane" fuel can improve fuel efficiency and overall engine performance; the use of High Octane can improve the feed conversion and overall performance of your swine herd.
