JJI0 MT HOOD 59-2

• Mt Hood 59-2 is an extra long bodied boar that still comes at you with good base width.  He has stout bone, good toe mass and a high quality underline.  The boar’s actual scan figures at 370 lb were .52 BF and 9.24 loin eye area.  Thus, he has all the muscle and leanness you would ever need in a maternal line sire. 
• Mt Hood 59-2 is sired by King David 4-3, which has been one of the most popular maternal boars at IBS the past few years.  A five-generation pedigree shows this IBS boar contains Large White genetics from Canadian, English, Finnish, Swedish and German herds.  Ulf 166, Agat and Lars are SGI boars added by way of the dam’s side of King David 4-3’s pedigree. 
• Mt Hood 59-2’s dam, Bonnie 28-10, at seven parities had lifetime averages of 11.0 born alive, 9.71 weaned and 173.15 lb 21-day litter weight.  Her six daughters currently in Ifft’s herd have an average of 12.9 born alive, 9.75 weaned and 148 lb 21-day litter weight.  Bonnie is sired by Mt Hood 4-3 who at one time was the stages trait leader for 21-day litter weight.  Mt Hood 4-3 was a littermate to the “Lena” line of sows that are the backbone of the Ifft sow herd.  Jim says, “The Lena line here has been extremely productive, yet produces leaner, higher cutability type hogs than most popular maternal genetics.”  The Lena 4-5 sow, Mt Hood 4-3’s littermate, farrowed her 10^th litter in May and has a lifetime average of 13.40 BA, 10.7 weaned and 178.77 21-day litter weight. 
• The Mt Hood 59-2 and Royal Crown 55-1 boars are three quarter brothers so this will allow our commercial customers that breed for large groups of replacement gilts to keep them more alike genetically.  They are different enough phenotypically to allow you to mix and match the two boars to make up for the differences in your own sows.
