  • When I get excited about a terminal sire I expect him to be black and white or red.  It is unusual for Yorkshire boars to sire show-winning barrows.  This guy could mess up my whole day. Just a few of the thoughts that went through my mind as I watched Sun Up for the first time gliding across the grass outside the isolation pen. Here is a white boar that truly excelled in displaying an abundance of muscling in the two areas that usually keep Yorkshire barrows from winning the big purple ribbon.
  • We are talking muscle rippling - butterfly tops and inside ham muscling that gives the crotch area between the hams a clean, full appearance. Now, as if that is not enough,
  • Sun Up comes wrapped in a package that is sound, sure footed, with the legs out on the corners and no unsightly dip behind the shoulders. Add to that a long, clean Yorkshire head with lots of breed character and an extra long body. Top this off with scan figures that could make a belted boar blush!  When backed up with generations of lean, heavy muscled sires the likes of Earthquake, Crank High and Ulf; this has got to be a sure bet.
  • Sun Up’s sire UR2 Aero 28-5 was a father-daughter mating of the Cal State Crank High 27-2 boar and his dam was by Chief, an Earthquake x Ulf.  Chief was the top indexing boar and a member of the top indexing pen at the Ida Grove Test Station. He gained 2.51 per day with 0.62 backfat, 6.74 LEA and 219 FE. Aero did an outstanding job for the barrow trade in the Southwest before his untimely death. He also sired the Champion Gilt at both the 1993 and 1994 Missouri State Fairs.  In addition, Aero sired the Reserve Boar (littermate to Sun Up), the top selling boar and was Premier Sire at the 1994 Missouri State Fair.
  • Sun Up was from a gilt litter of 10 born, 8 raised and a 21-day litter weight of 105 lbs (SPI 104.3).
  • His maternal granddam farrowed 9 litters with 10.22 born and 9.11 weaned with a 21-day litter weight of 122.5 lb (SPI 103.5).
  • If you are interested in making super white or blue butt barrows or peeling the grease off a set of commercial sows, give Sun Up a try!
