  • Cambridge was the extremely popular 1996 National Barrow Show $11,500 Champion Boar.
  • His littermate was the Champion and $3100 top selling gilt at Austin, Michigan State University kept four outstanding littermate gilts.
  • Cambridge exemplifies what most SGI customers have been seeking:  a big framed, long bodied, lean boar with excellent EPDs that has the natural width, ruggedness of skeleton and sound functional design to make super performing females that will remain in the herd for a large number of parities.
  • Both Cambridge and the Champion littermate gilt were big, powerful fronted, heavy structured individuals that were very level and loose in their design.  They were also big footed, very even toed and super sound with excellent underlines.  Add to this their excellent natural width of body, particularly excelling in width of chest, mid-rib and rump you have all the components needed to make fast growing, tough, durable hogs.
  • Certainly Cambridge and his littermate gilt also excelled in leanness and muscle volume scanning 0.66 and 0.63 BF at the tenth rib with 9.0 and 8.96 LEA at 375 and 315 lbs: yet they had sufficient fat cover and curvature down over the shoulders and rib cage along with the length and looseness of muscle shape needed to remain functional under tough confinement conditions.
  • Cambridge’s sire, Cambridge 6-3, is of English Large White ancestry.  He has EPDs of 0.6 Days, -0.07 BF, 0.2 NBA, 2.5 21- day litter wt., 112 MLI and 115.4 TSI.
  • The dam of Cambridge is a direct Jens 448 daughter who has proven her ability to consistently perform in total confinement at Michigan State University.  In six parities she has averaged 11.8 born live and 168 lb. 28-day litter weight with a 112.4 SPI, 124.5 MLI and 126.9 TSI.
  • For those that are seeking to make their Yorkshire or maternal lines tougher and more durable without sacrificing leanness, muscle or proven superior sow productivity, we highly recommend Cambridge.
