  • We are really excited about the potential of Wildcard due to his individual excellence in both performance and type combined with the tremendous productivity of his ancestors.
  •  Wild card was the 3rd top indexing boar in his contemporary group of 59 head.  His littermates were 1st, 2nd, 6th and 7th with indexes of 137.5, 135.3, 131.1 and 130.6.  The five boars averaged 141 days to 220 lb (EPD of minus 8 days) and 0.58 in backfat (EPD of minus 0.10).  Four littermate gilts were 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 8th in their 52 head contemporary group with indexes of 137.1, 133.6, 130.9 and 127.3.  These four littermate gilts averaged 150 days to 220 lb and 0.64 in backfat.
  •  Wildcard is sired by a full brother in blood to RC Pipe (SGI 425).  Pipe was definitely one of the most popular and best generating boars ever at SGI.  In turn, the sire of Pipe and U Bet (Wildcard’s sire) was the very influential Hampshire sire, GDF Wilson.  Wilson was ranked 1st and Pipe 39th in the 1988 Hampshire Herdsire Elite Summary.  They are 3rd and 24th in the 1989 Summary. Wilson had 134 sons tested on the farm with an average of 160 days to 230, 0.70 BF and 6.30 Lea. Wildcard’s paternal granddam and her littermate (dam of Pipe) have excellent BVSPI of 105.38 and 106.05.  SGI customers have consistently reported Pipe daughters to be some of their very best pig raisers.
  •  The Penner herd is known for outstanding sow productivity and underline quality.  Wildcard’s dam is from Penner’s most productive sow family.  He is out of a litter of 11 farrowed, 11 weaned with 136 lb 21 day litter weight.  His maternal granddam is the Cody 44-3 sow with a lifetime average of 10.0 farrowed and 9.45 weaned.  She is also the mother of the Penner Herd Sire, Ten, who is from a litter of 10 weaned with a remarkable 171 lb 21-day litter weight.
  •  The great maternal granddam, 42.3 has a lifetime average of 9.7 farrowed and 8.9 weaned.  Her littermate, 42-3, and dam are both Hampshire Hall of Fame sows with lifetime averages of 12.43 F., 10.83 W. and 12.40 .F, 1-.40 W. respectively.  Wildcard combines the heaviness of structure and natural thickness of body typical of Pipe with the extra frame size and extreme leanness that have been trademarks at Penners.
  •  Wildcard is also a very heavy muscled boar with an extremely thick, meaty ham which would be expected from both sides of is pedigree.  He is a level toped, particularly long rumped and very sound boar with an excellent underline.
  • Wildcard offers you the same versatility in a breeding program that a “wildcard” offers in a card game.  He can certainly be used to generate very productive replacement females, aggressive, excellent performing terminal boars with superior carcass attributes; tough, profitable market pigs with a high lean value or outstanding show barrows of the type that make Pipe such a popular sire in the Southwest.
