• Bakom was selected from the several boars in the final group under consideration as potential imports not only because of his individual excellence in carcass characteristics; but also due to the tremendous performance record of his ancestors.

• Bakom’s sire is the highest indexing (119) of any Hampshire boar presently in service in Sweden.  The percent meat in the carcasses of his 6 test groups was 3.9% greater than the station average.  The carcass last rib backfat of these 12 pigs was only 1.5 cm or 0.59 inches.  His dam’s test group had 2.1% greater carcass lean than the station average with a carcass last rib backfat of only 1.1 cm or 0.43 inches.

• Bakom is an extremely lean boar (0.43 inches backfat) being particularly free of fat over the top of his shoulder blades, along the edge of his loin and in his jowl and belly.  He is a very heavy muscled boar with tremendous expression of muscle over his loin, rump and down through his ham.

• Bakom is also a masculine headed, wide based, sound, free moving boar that stands on good substance of bone with his legs out on the corners.

• Bakom was a relatively fast growing boar under the Swedish limit-feeding program.  The 111 for both his production and pedigree index are truly superior under the Swedish indexing system.

• We have more confidence in Bakom’s ability to remove fat and improve the percentage of carcass lean than any boar ever brought to SGI.
