Karlstorp 244-3 was slated to be a junior herd sire at Cedar Ridge SPF Farm. We were impressed by his extreme leanness and tremendous muscle shape combined with his added frame size. His extra length of neck, body and rump are an added asset for maternal lines. Karlstorp 244-3 also has a bold shoulder, good rib shape and is very flexible and mobile; all needed for the superior longevity desired in maternal lines. He is backed by superior sow productivity. His dam has a 108.98 SPI and has averaged 13.5 farrowed alive, 10 weaned, 166 lb 21-day litter weight in her first two parities. His maternal and paternal granddam has a 106.98 SPI with 11.5 born alive and 175 lb 21-day litter weight for four parities. Karlstorp’s sire 65-1, had individual performance of 159 days, 0.42 BF and 6.90 LEA with EPDs of Days 0.76, BF –0.04, NBA 0.36, Lt. Wt. 1.40, MLI 108.42, SPI 105.1 and TSI 108.10. Karlstorp is tightly linebred, being the result of a littermate mating. Thus, we are confident he will consistently transmit the well-documented Cedar Ridge superiority for carcass traits as well as the high maternal productivity plus the extra durability and longevity of the Karlstorp line.
