Vista was the record setting Hog College Boar at the National Barrow Show.
-
We felt at the time he was one of the best buys ever for SGI and as time passes we are even more convinced that this is true. Vista has a performance-backed pedigree second to none. He established the all time record for feed efficiency for a Landrace boar of 188.9 while requiring only 137 days to reach 230 lb with 0.46 in backfat.
-
Vista's great grandsire is SGI 323 Omar. His offspring have consistently been some of the leanest with the best feed efficiency in test stations throughout the U.S.
-
Vista’s grandsire, Omar 33-1, was the top indexing boar in the New York Test Station with 2.31 ADG, 0.46 BF, 6.00 LEA and the lowest pen feed efficiency of 2.39. Omar 33-1 has sired a top indexing boar and pen at the Maryland Test Station, been named a NBS Super Sire twice and has one of the top EPDS for litter weight of 4.58.
-
Vista’s sire is littermate to the 1993 Hog College Gilt and is backed by three generations of outstanding brood sows, KLS9 Daily 33-3, KLS7 Daily 84-4 and KLS4 Daisy 2-7. These three sows have the following averages respectively for 6, 5 and 7 litters: 11.6, 9.9, 10.6 born live and 147, 143, 136 lb 21-day weaning weight with +3.4, +3.0 and +2.6 EPDS. Two littermates to Vista’s sire have averaged 9.0 and 12.0 weaned with the 17-6 sow recording a remarkable 162 lb 21-day litter weight on her first litter.
-
Vista is from a gilt litter of 13 farrowed live, 11 after transfer, 11 weaned and 164 lb 21-day litter weight. His dam is a littermate to the Champion Gilt at the 1992 S.T.C. and a full sib to the 2nd high selling boar at the 1992 S.T.C. that had performance data of 152 days to 230, 0.53 BF and 7.00 LEA.
-
Vista’s paternal grandsire, VBF9 Donholm Pisa, has a phenomenal test station progeny record on 12 sons of 2.30 ADG, 0.64 BF, 6.45 LEA and 2.07, 2.14 and 2.15 pen feed efficiencies. Sixteen daughters of Pisa have averaged 11.6 born live and 141 21-lb litter weight.
-
On the bottom side BT Dunn 36-4 is Vista’s great grandsire. Dunn sired the $10,000 1987 National Barrow Show Champion Boar and the $5000 1987 STC Champion Boar who in turn sired the current Landrace trait leader for Maternal Line Index, BCF 8 Dagger 78-8.
-
Vista is a big framed, long bodied; yet wide made, heavy structured boar. He is very sound and functional with an excellent underline. A clean jowled and lean topped boar, he has ample muscling through the rump and ham to meet today’s packer demand. In addition he has the design to excel as a maternal line sire.
-
With his predictable pedigree for performance, carcass merit and maternal characteristics combines with his superior individual performance and outstanding phenotype, Vista definitely has value added profit potential.
