WALDO 6-3 was the $7,250 Second Place Boar standing next to his First Place Littermate at the 1988 Summer Duroc Congress. He was SGI’s pick of the outstanding #6 litter at Isler’s. His littermate boar was named Reserve Champion and sold for $11,500 and two littermate gilts were First and Second in class, with the First Place Gilt being named Grand Champion. SGI purchased a third outstanding boar from the litter for $5,000 for export to Japan and the best gilt in the litter was retained at Isler’s. The three boars in this litter averaged 2.54 ADG, 136 days to 230 lb, 0.79 BF, 5.77 LEA, and 226 FE. We selected WALDO 6-3 because he was the leanest, loosest structured, best designed, and most freewheeling of the three boars. Like all of his littermates, WALDO 6-3 is a super sound, long bodied, heavy muscled boar with excellent shape to his top and a long, thick rump. WALDO 6-3 is one of the most aggressive boars ever at SGI and also has an excellent underline and testicle size. This litter was no accident. Their sire, Waldo, is one massive yet heavy muscled, lean, super sound boar, and their dam has been one of the most productive sows at Isler’s. She has a lifetime BVSPI of 103.85 and WALDO 6-3 is from a litter of 9 farrowed live, 9 weaned, 158 lb 21-day weight. We feel WALDO 6-3 is a problem-free boar that can meet the present demand for leaner, heavier muscled hogs yet maintain the growth and ruggedness that have made Durocs a favorite with the commercial producer.
