NATHAN is probably the most complete of the live Duroc imports. Like all the Danish imports, he is very lean appearing and has excellent muscle development. He is extremely clean fronted, being very trim in his jowl and really free of fat over the top of his blades, down over his shoulders and along his loin edge. He is a level designed boar that has a particularly level, square rump. NATHAN is a sound, free moving boar and has excellent teat quality. NATHAN’s sire has a remarkable index of 157 which is the highest index we encountered in Denmark. His offspring tested in central test stations have averaged 2.23 lb. gain per day, an outstanding 2.28 feed conversion and 60.03% meat fan astounding 3% above the mean). NATHAN’s dam is sired by the outstanding sire, Frank, discussed under Steroid. The offspring tested in Central Test Station out of NATHAN’s dam have averaged 2.10 lb gain per day and an outstanding 2.45% meat above the mean. She has averaged 12.0 born and 10.67 weaned in 3 parities while NATHAN’s maternal and paternal granddam’s have averaged 10.8, 10.4 born live and 8.20, 8.20 weaned, respectively. NATHAN is negative for the stress gene. Denmark is famous for the consistent leanness of their pork carcasses. Duroc boars like NATHAN used as terminal sires have played a big role in the development of Denmark’s large pork export market. NATHAN sired the record setting pen at Ida Grove and is the 9th ranking sire for backfat EPDs in the Duroc breed. NATHAN’s sons are truly doing the job as terminal sires. Three sons are ranked in the top 11 in the December 1994 Crossherd Sire Summary on Terminal Sire Index, and three in the top 12 on EPDs of backfat. Nathans is also making a name for himself as a female sire ranking 12th on MLI with his son Napalm ranking 3rd in the November 1995 Across Herd Sire Summary.
