Alley Cat was our choice of the outstanding 331 litter in the November 1995 Shipley Sale. The top three boars in the litter averaged 145 days to 230 lb, 0.30 BF and 7.22 LEA and sold for $7200, $6750 and $6500. All the gilts in the litter were retained at Shipley’s. Alley Cat was the biggest framed, longest bodied and the most extended of the three boars. He has a very lean, shapely top and a big butt. Totally free of fat from end to end, he is particularly clean about his jowl, lower shoulder and body cavity. Alley Cat’s sire, Alberta II, has consistently sired big, lean, heavy muscled Durocs. A son was the $34,000 Reserve Champion Boar of Stoney Creek’s at the 1995 Autumn Classic. The 10 boars in Alberta II’s first three litters at Shipley’s averaged 149 days to 230, 0.37 BF and 7.03 LEA. Alley Cat’s dam was a littermate to the top selling boar in Shipley’s 1994 November sale. She and her two littermates averaged 10.3 farrowed and 9.3 weaned in their first parities. The maternal grandam Winnipeg 262-6 has averaged 10.4 farrowed and 9.4 weaned for five parities with 11 daughters retained at Shipley’s. She is also the dam of the top selling boar at $5500 and the top two gilts at $1600 and $1500 in the Shipley’s September 1995 Sale. The maternal great grandam, Winnepeg, 269-5, has been a “GENETIC GIANT” in the Shipley’s herd with five sons retained as herd boars. We feel that Alley Cat is a unique breeding piece that has no Danish or Meat Packer breeding in his pedigree. He offers extra scale, extreme leanness and outstanding muscle shape in a growthy, sound and functional package.
