EXCITING was the Poland Hog College Boar at the 1989 NBS. He created a lot of excitement at the Ames Test Station and NBS because of his tremendous muscle expression, strength of bone, extra natural width of body and chest, excellent underline quality and overall structural correctness. He has added to that excitement by siring several class winning crossbred barrows at the Eastern Indiana Barrow Show and Indiana State Fair 4-H Show along with several top test stations boars. His offspring have consistently cutout carcasses with only 0.6 to 0.9 in backfat and 6 to over 7 in loin eyes. Equally as exciting as his superior phenotype as a pig and the accomplishments of his first crop of offspring, is the way he has continued to develop into a powerful, impressive yearling. He is a well-balanced, stylish, heavy structured, wide based, extra heavy muscled boar with a really big rear end. EXCITING is also backed by excellent sow productivity and superior feedlot performance. In the 1988 World Pork Expo Genetic Challenge, 24 head out of sons or daughters of his sire, Grizzly, grew 7.7% faster, were 32% leaner, had over 0.25 sq in more loin and cutout longer than the average of the 792 pig test group. EXCITING’s dam has an SPI of 103.4 with a lifetime average of 11.7 farrowed, 10.3 weaned and 150 lb (EPD of 3.0) 21-day litter weight. Her littermate sister produced the 1989 ATC Reserve Champion Boar as well as Champion Gilts at the Pennsylvania Farm Show and the Keystone Show. EXCITING’s paternal grandsire had superior test figures of 126 days to 230, 0.78 BF and 6.50 LEA. He sired the 1st and 3rd fastest gaining barrows and the Reserve Champion over all breeds in the 1988 Iowa Production Classic. EXCITING’s paternal granddam was sired by the 1985 Summer Type Conference Grand Champion and Purdue Test Station Graduate who in turn was by the record gaining (2.91 lb per day) $11,500 Ohio Test Station Graduate, Record Breaker.
