SGIBoars “HOW TO” series, a legend in the making, DIRTY SOUTH.

At this point, it’s no secret that we’ve hedged our bets on the generating value of DIRTY SOUTH and his sons. There’s been an internal emphasis at SGI to build around SOUTH. There’s a natural tendency for many to gravitate to the boars with the most extreme parts and pieces, but like DIRTY SECRET himself, DIRTY SOUTH is secure in his angles, ultra comfortable in his build and nearly unparalleled in his proportions. He does not possess the biggest limbs or the largest back, but his presence, build and balance make him elite. With his first pigs debuting in market hog rings only a few short months ago, he has been absolutely dynamite out of the gate siring the following champions: Champion Cross Barrow Fort Worth Stock Show, Reserve Middle Cross Barrow Fort Worth Stock Show, Champion Division 1 York Barrow San Antonio Stock Show, Champion Division 1 Other Cross Barrow Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo, Reserve Dark Cross Barrow Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo, Reserve Grand Barrow Rodeo Austin and the Grand Overall Cross Gilt at the Exposition Junior National. Needless to say, we have added several sons of DIRTY SOUTH who we will introduce in this series soon.

The playbook: For the pedigree enthusiasts, we feel like strong execution with this guy as a barrow sire makes sense. SOUTH needs to see your robust, sturdy built, burly sows. As noted above, he will dictate the pace on look, build, squareness, proportions and athleticism, but he does need to see your females that are dense in their frame and muscle pattern. Now the naysayers may make the leap to say that it sounds like SOUTH will drain you of power attributes, and that would be an unfair statement. We are simply trying to point everyone in the appropriate direction. DIRTY SOUTH has quickly proven his value, and we think his impact on the Crossbred industry is in its infancy!

Side note: SOUTH gives us all an opportunity to leverage the sow power of his elite Swagger x Black Attack mother who is a cornerstone at Final Drive Genetics and originated at Heimer Hampshires. Also, DIRTY SOUTH has been gilt friendly in the farrowing house as his pigs have come very sensible in their size at birth.
