  • STEP-OUT was the 3rd high indexing and top selling boar at the December 12th Iowa Swine Test Station Sale.  He is backed by generations of outstanding test station performance.  His paternal great grandsire, Step-Up 216-3, was a littermate to the Champion Boar and Reserve Champion Gilt at the 1984 National Barrow Show.  Step-Up 216-3 sired top indexing Yorkshire pens during the summer of 1985 at Ames, Lisbon and New Hampton Test Stations that averaged:  2.62 ADG, 138 Days to 230, 0.81 BF, 5.50 LEA, 236 FE, 222 Index.  The 1985 National Barrow Show Champion Boar was from the Top Indexing Pen at New Hampton.
  •  STEP-OUT’s maternal grandsire.  Ben 247-8, also sired Top Indexing Pens over all breeds at Ames and Lisbon with these six sons averaging:  2.64 ADG, 141 Days to 230, 0.80 BF, 5.80 LEA, 232 FE, 225 Index.
  •  STEP-OUT’s sire, Step-Up 1-2, was named a National Barrow Show Super Sire in 1991 with his tested progeny ranking 4th in overall performance and carcass merit of all the sires tested.  Six of the eight pigs in the progeny test group were three-quarter brothers to STEP-OUT, being out of Ben 247-8 daughters.  The sire of the dam of Step-Up 1-2 was a littermate to the Champion Carcass Pig at the South Dakota State Fair and a littermate to the dam of the dam of Step_Up 1-2 was a littermate to the Champion Carcass Pig at the South Dakota State Fair and a littermate to the dam of the dam of Step-Up 1-2 was the Champion Boar at the National Barrow Show in 1985.
  •  STEP- OUT’s paternal grandsire, Step-Up 19-4 (Oly), has compiled a tremendous record in the Southwest barrow shows.  Larry Bellamy commented in Clarence Wayman’s catalog that Oly had impacted the Southwest Yorkshire barrow business like no other Yorkshire boar in history.  He sired Champion Barrows at Oklahoma City and Tulsa while sons have sired the Reserve Champion at Oklahoma City in 1990, Grand Champion and Reserve at Tulsa in 1991 and the Grand Barrow at Houston in 1991 that sold for a record $57,000.
  •  STEP-OUT’s dam has averaged 12.0 born live, 10.7 weaned and 136 lb 21-day litter weight in her first three litters.  She has a 106.1 SPI, which is No. 1 in the Olson’s herd.
  •  STEP-OUT’s tremendous ancestral heritage and outstanding individual performance is combined with outstanding phenotype.
  •  He is a wide sprung, wide based boar that comes at you extra wide up front, has excellent spring of rib and also a very heavy structured, heavy boned and super sound boar with big even toes.  Andy McVay feels he is the best Yorkshire boar to come through the Ames Test Station since he has been manager.
  • We certainly feel that STEP-OUT has the potential to sire outstanding show pigs for our Southwest customers as well as superior performing Yorkshire or whiteline females.  An added feature is that he is an outcross to the Ulf, Crank High, Old Joe, Regal and Ultra Lines.
