NBD 6 EXPRESS 1-2

• Express 1-2 is intensely line bred to SGI 185 NBD Express 237-5.   Express 237-5 continues to surface in many of the best performing Durocs in the U.S. today and was one of the most popular SGI boars ever in the Japan and Taiwan markets. 
• Five of the eight great grand parents of Express 1-2 are sired by Express 237-5 or one of his sons.  The great Nelson bred Duroc generators, Radical and Freeway, as well as the sires of Huinker’s Mr. Commercial Man and SGI’s Mandate, also appear in Express 1-2’s pedigree.  He represents a throwback to the fast growing (138 days to 105 kg), massive, durable Durocs of the mid-eighties; yet Express 1-2’s 0.48 real time scan will certainly keep him competitive from a leanness standpoint in today’s market. 
• Express 1-2 is an extremely heavy duty, bold-fronted boar with a huge scapula and forearm, tremendous natural width of body cavity and massive bone with big feet.  At the same time, he is a totally big hog that has good extension and is still clean, flat and relatively immature in his bone work at one year of age.  Level designed, flexible and super sound, here is one fast growing, tough made yet lean dude. 
• The sire of Express 1-2’s dam, WFD1 Blick 192-3, is the present Nelson senior herd sire.  He is another big-framed, long-bodied, rugged, wide-made boar whose daughters have really excelled in the farrowing house. 
•  Express 1-2’s dam is also backed by the best maternal line at Nelson Brothers.  A big, long-bodied, powerful made yet maternal appearing sow; she has averaged 9.2 pigs weaned and 131 lb. 21-day litter weight for six parities. 
• Several of our Japanese and Taiwanese customers have indicated that some U.S. Durocs are becoming too lean, narrower made and more refined than the traditional Duroc they desire.  This has resulted in their offspring growing slower with less resistance to disease and poor adaptability to intense confinement raising.  Although the carcasses of these pigs have high percent lean; again, they are not as desirable in muscle quality in terms of color and marbling as the traditional Duroc. 
• Certainly, Express 1-2 can move you in the right direction in terms of growth and ruggedness yet maintain the high percentage of high quality lean that we have been striving for recently.  Express 1-2 was purchased by Daiwa Farm of Japan.
