The offspring of Muskie were extremely popular at the Iowa State Fair and National Barrow Show because of their extra frame size, length of body and ruggedness combined with superior leanness and expressive muscling. Muskie sired the Champion Boar at the Iowa State Fair and was Reserve Premier Sire at both Iowa and the National Barrow Show.

REAL STAR was a class winner and second top selling boar at the National Barrow Show. Like his sire; he is a raw made, big framed, long bodied, heavy structured, extremely well designed and super sound boar. He excels his sire in leanness and shape down his top and has a long, level, thick rump and a thick expressively muscled ham.

REAL STAR carries the genetics of several of the top sires in the Duroc breed in recent years. His paternal grandsire, North Star, ranked 8th in EPDS for days and 11th in TSI in the latest Duroc Across-Herd Sire Summary. Also on the top side of his pedigree, First Choice 98-4 ranked 7th in SPI and 9th in both MLI and EPDs for litter weight. REAL STAR’s maternal great grandsire, Real Time, ranked 8th in EPDs for backfat and 10th in Terminal Sire Index. Also, on the bottom side the Monkey (Cheeta) genetics have been synonymous with heavy structured, lean hogs.

REAL STARs dam is one of the biggest framed, rawest made, heaviest structured sows at Rouse & Hodson’s. His maternal granddam is a full sister to the $3200 Champion Gilt at the Sadelia Summer Conference.

REAL STAR is from a tremendous litter that also included a class winner and very popular boar at Iowa and a second place gilt at the National Barrow Show. The five boars in the litter averaged 150 days to 230, 0.54 BF and 6.31 LEA. The entire litter excelled in frame and structure with lean, very shapely tops. The Muskie-Real Time cross has been particularly impressive and very consistent in the Rouse & Hodson’s herd.

With this consistency of big, rugged, lean heavy muscled hogs in REAL STAR’s pedigree, we are confident that he will generate these traits in his offspring.
