- FULLTILT was the top indexing boar and a member of the top indexing pen over all breeds at the Ohio Swine Test Station.
- He truly grew ’fulltilt’ to achieve a 3.12 average daily gain when you consider he was on test in an open front unit during one of the coldest Decembers on record. His two littermates gained 2.65 and 2.54 lb per day, had 0.78 and 0.85 in backfat with 6.28 and 6.17 sq in loin eyes.
- FULLTILT’s sire, Chip had an excellent 1.85 weight per day of age and only 1.17 in of backfat at 465 lb when exhibited at the 1988 World Pork Expo. Waldo, the maternal grandsire was Premier Sire at the 1988 Duroc Congress where he sired the Champion Gilt and Reserve Champion Boar as well as at the 1989 World Pork Expo where he sired the $3,800 Record Selling Reserve Champion Gilt. The average on 4 pens tested at the Ohio Test Station sired by Waldo is: 2.48 ADG, 0.76 BF, 6.03 LEA. 230 FE. The Chip x Waldo combination has really worked at Islers. The first crop contained the Hog College Gilt as well as a 1st place boar and gilt at the 1989 National Barrow Show along with 2 excellent performing and phenotypically outstanding boars exported to Japan by SGI. The dam of FULLTILT and her littermate weaned 10 and 11 pigs in their first litter with 143 and 141 lb 21-day litter weights, respectively.
- FULLTILT is a correct made, level topped, level rumped boar with extra length, width and depth to his body cavity. The very good muscle dimension size and even, square toes. Boars that gain over 3 lb a day yet stay lean (0.77 in backfat) are very rare.
- However, when you combine this kind of performance with the superior phenotype and pedigree of FULLTILT, you truly have one of a kind that can be used ’fulltilt’ to improve the genetic makeup of durocs worldwide.
