- Royal Crown 55-1 has excellent muscle expression down his top and out through his rump. He has excellent design throughout his skeletal structure and is correct in all sow production pressure points of hip, hock, knee, pastern and toes. Expansion through the center part of his rib and shoulder will allow his daughters to roll over on the bellies in the farrowing crates.
- Royal Crown 55-1 is clean and trendy through his neck and head and should be one to sire Yorkshire breeding gilts for show or to breed for next season’s market barrows. He has enough muscle to make high quality white or blue-butt show barrows or market hogs.
- Royal Crown 55-1 is sired by King David 4-3, which has been one of the most popular maternal boars at IBS the past few years. A five-generation pedigree shows this IBS boar contains Large white genetics from Canadian, English, Finnish, Swedish and German herds. Ulf 166, Agat and Lars are SGI boars added by way of the dam’s side of King David 4-3’s pedigree. Jens shows up in the Royal Crown 55-1’s pedigree on the dam’s side but all of the SGI boars are back at least four generations; therefore, Royal Crown 55-1 may be used on any daughters of SGI’s boars currently in production.
- The maternal grandam of Royal Crown 55-1 is the Lena 4-5 sow that was a littermate to the Mt Hood 4-3 boar, who at one time was the stages trait leader for 21-day litter weight. Hopefully everyone with their heart into breeding better production hogs has that one sow which develops their complete confidence. For Jim Ifft that sow is Lena 4-5 and he has developed a large part of his sow herd around this foundation sow. Jim says, “The Lena line here has been extremely productive, yet produces leaner, higher cutabilty type hogs than most popular maternal genetics.” The Lena 4-5 sow farrowed her 10th litter in May and has a lifetime average of 13.40 BA, 10.7 weaned and 178.77 21-day litter weight.
- In regards to the maternal grandsire the Park & Reno Thomas Royal Crown 66-5, Jim says “We purchased this boar just before the Thomas herd was sold. He spent the first five years of his life in a gestation stall, yet remained sound, thick and aggressive.” “He was a huge-ribbed, bold fronted, big footed boar and his daughters have done an outstanding job!”
- Royal Crown 55-1 should give you a set of sows that have muscle and leanness but still maintain productivity and longevity so important in a commercial sow herd.
