• Ultrabasic and Ultramafic resulted from a SGI planned mating with frozen semen from the legend, Ulf 166, and one of the very best sows at the Finnish Edge in terms of both phenotype and genotype. 
• Of course, Ulf needs no introduction to anyone in the Yorkshire business.  He was the pacesetter for maternal production and backfat as the STAGES program was being developed in the early 90’s.  He still ranks 5^th on Maternal Line Index (139.6) and 3^rd on SPI with 1779 daughter records in the November 1997 Across Herd Sire Summary. 
• Ultrabasic’s and Ultramafic’s dam (Errokki 46) is a big, powerful, extra long bodied, level made and super sound sow imported from Finland.  She has averaged 143 lb 21-day weight in her first three parities while her dam, paternal and maternal grandams averaged 12.8, 16.3 and 13.8 born, 10.8, 13.4 and 11.1 weaned and 163, 156 and 176 lb 21-day litter weights for 4, 8 and 10 parities respectively, Jaro, the sire of Erroki 46, has been the leading maternal sire in Finland with a 126 SPI based on 670 daughter records.  His offspring have also been consistently big, sound and durable.  Erroki 46’s maternal grandam is Anna, the dam of the phenomenal Anis sow. 
• Ultrabasic and Ultramafic were the 1^st and 2nd ranking boars on MLI in their contemporary groups of 46 boars and their littermate sister was 1^st in her group with performance of 149 days, 0.41 BF, 7.66 LEA and 126.7 MLI.  Both 19-1 and 19-5 are extra long bodied, level made, well balance and sound individuals with good natural body width and outstanding teat quality.  Ultrabasic is a little longer  fronted while Ultramafic is the slightly wider sprung and heavier boned of the two.
