Going back to the immortal Fast Al 1-1 who stood at SGI when he was seven to nine years of age, an Al line boar has been a mainstay in the SGI Landrace lineup. The Al line has been noted for its fast and easy growth pattern, natural width of body, extra heaviness of structure and superior longevity.
-
Big Al is a linebred Fast AL 1-1. His sire, Fast Al 4-1, was a direct son of Fast Al 1-1. Fast Al 4-1 was the top indexing boar at the Ohio National Landrace Test. He gained 2.72 per day with 126 days to 230, 0.69 backfat, 5.60 loin eye and 181 index.
-
Big Al’s dam is a descendant of SGI 311 Adam who was the second top indexing and top selling boar in the 1985 National Landrace Test. Of course, Adam was also a linebred Al. Fast Al 1-1 is Adam’s paternal grandsire and the sire of Adam’s dam, 658 Al av Nordvik, was also the paternal grandsire of Fast Al 1-1. Al av Nordvik was a top indexing boar in the Hermanstorp Station in Sweden. Fast Al 1-1 and his sire set the standard for test station performance from the late 70’s through the 80’s. Fast Al 1-1’s sire was a member of the second high indexing pen at the Iowa Test Station and his dam a full sister to the $11,000 record selling Iowa Test Station boar. In turn, Fast Al 1-1 as well as his sons and grandsons have sired numerous top indexing boars in central test stations.

Like his SGI predecessors (Fast Al 1-1, Adam, Second Dimension and Al 13-1), Big Al has a super tough, rugged design. He is a bold fronted, wide chested, very heavy boned and big footed boar.
-
A naturally wide made boar, he has excellent spring of rib and a big thick rump. Big Al also has a large volume of muscle yet is a very loose structured, free whelling and super sound boar.
-
Big Al is from a litter of 13 born live, 11 weaned and an excellent 161 lb 21-day litter weight. With his linebred Al pedigree, we are confident Big Al will sire growthy, thick made and heavy structured Landrace that can adapt to any environment or housing style.
-
When you combine this stout, tough design with superior sow productivity and adequate muscling, we feel Big Al would be ideal to mate with Omar, Rank, Silver & Gold and Muxfeldt’s daughters or to cross on Swedish line Yorkshires.
