Hoosier Red represents the culmination of genetic progress in the breeding of Duroc hogs. By every standard of measurement, this boar measures up! Performance, production, pedigree and phenotypic excellence are all united here. Hoosier Red's performance data is no accident; his pedigree is rich in total tested parentage. He was the top indexing individual in his forty-four head contemporary test group with littermates ranking 3rd, 5th, 8th, 10th, 14th, and 20th respectively. From a heritage perspective, Hoosier Red exhibits the genetic strengths of his sire SGI's HP1 Columbo 114-4, who tested out at 140 Days to 250 lb, 0.47 BF, 9.50 LEA and from his paternal grandisre, KEF9 Columbus 1-4 (141 Days to 250 lb). The Columbo line has also excelled in meat quality characteristics tracing to SGI's Ripper, HP Outcross and Spitfire. On the maternal side of Hoosier Red's lineage are genetic giants like Cornhusker 37-3, another line known for rapid growth and confinement adaptability. Also Altitude (509 Wally x NBD9 Express 4-1), who was a Premier's sire at several National Shows in 1993 and 1994, built structure and performance into Hoosier Red's prepotency. Tobasco, a line bred Nathan, offers consistency of leanness and muscle. The maternal great grandisre, Great Dane 70-4, and his sire, Great Dane 202-7, who at one time was the #1 sire in the breed for TSI (136.1) and #2 sire for BF (0.12); add stability to Hoosier Red's potential. Also on the bottom side you have superior maternal prediction with WFD1 Universal 217-1, a maternal trait leader in the Duroc breed. Great Dane 70-4's dam (Nel 107-8) was the #1 ranking sow at Stewarts with an SPI of 129.8. Hoosier Red is a big, rugged thick muscled and sound Duroc Boar. If you are interested in commercially oriented Durocs that excel in growth and consistency, are very confinement adaptable, hang carcasses with not only high lean content but also outstanding meat quality; Hoosier Red is your ticket.
